The gender ratio is beginning to balance in technical universities

The number of females who become students at the Polytechnic University of Timisoara has increased from year to year, especially in areas specific to the IT domain. This balancing took place for economic reasons, because IT jobs are very well paid and then become attractive.

Among the specializations close to the IT field, from the Polytechnic University of Timișoara, out of the total number of undergraduate graduates, 40% are female, and in the master’s programs, the percentage of girls reaches 45%.

The percentage of women working in IT has improved throughout Europe, but in Romania the growth is higher due to the increased demand for specialists in the labor market.

Regarding the competitiveness, the specialists of the Polytechnic University of Timișoara noticed that the students became very interested in participating in competitions and hackathons. We are talking about competitions that focus on creativity and the development of unique concepts, in which the number of participants has been growing.
