Nokia selected by NASA to build first ever cellular network on the Moon

NASA aims, through its Artemis program, to bring people back to the moon by 2024 and to establish permanent bases on the celestial surface. Nokia has announced that the first broadband wireless communications system in space will be built on the surface of the Moon in late 2022, before the astronauts get there again.

The project includes innovations in power station, cryogenics, robotics, safe grounding methods and 4G technology, which could provide a substantial improvement in communication with current radio stations on the moon.

Nokia Bell Labs will use its wireless network for data transmission, control of satellites on the moon, real-time navigation, but also HD video transmission.
